For journalism, style and grammar are essential to writing well. For any writer to not know and understand grammar and style would be like a carpenter not understanding how to use a saw or a hammer, which are tools of his trade. For journalists, those tools are grammar and AP style; both of which must be mastered no matter what publication, online site or in-house communications you end up working for.
To help with style, which you should be studying already, I’m going to use most of the class today to work on style exercises. Please start with the first quiz and work downward. Each quiz will be timed, and do not move forward until I say so, OK?
