Feb. 27 … the craft of writing features

Features remain one of the most fascinating things for a journalist to write, because they allow him (or her) to break out of the Inverted Pyramid. While the structure is less rigid than what you’d find with news stories, a feature does have structure.

Look at this Feature writing 101 and be prepared to discuss it once classes resume after your Spring Break.

Between now and then, also make sure you read William Zinsser’s chapter on “Writing About People.” It will be helpful to you as you begin work on your feature story, which all of you should start reporting on as soon as possible.
