Class 2 Syllabus … Honors Tutorial
Student will familiarize herself with different styles of journalistic prose and learn how to critique and edit professional, award-winning articles.
Each week, the student and tutor will read between two and four long-form feature pieces published by well-known journalists from publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Texas Monthly, The New Yorker, Esquire and other well-known publications that produce long-form stories. The student should come to tutorial having read and critiqued each piece, deciding whether the piece worked.
During the tutorial, the instructor and student will discuss elements of each article; they will talk about what made a great element great and what could have made a weak element better. The instructor will grade the student based on participation and weekly critiques that the student will submit through emails before the tutorial.
